Practicing Stillness and the Life Balancing Moment
Monday, March 28th, 2011I Heard the Dolphins Breathing, a Life Balancing Moment
Monday, November 29th, 2010
It came to pass that my husband John and I found ourselves at Shem Creek in the Low Country of South Carolina on Thanksgiving night. As we stood on the deserted dock under a clear sky filled with star shine, it was so still and quiet that I literally heard the dolphins breathing as they surfaced in the creek. There was no other sound. And there arose in me such awe, love and gratitude for life that I imagined this short poem so I could savor the moment again and again.

What made this a “life balancing moment”? It was being in a place I’d never been before on that particular quiet night; being fully present and enjoying nature with all my senses; and the element of surprise when the dolphins surfaced.
This unique combination created an awe-inspiring moment of simply being with nature and loving life. It felt like a sacred gift and I now use the memory of it to balance out stressful moments that come up.
